Napa County Lex
A Local’s Guide to Napa Wine Country
I’m Lex — a Berkeley-based Bay Area native with a genuine love for wine, authentic cuisine, and beautifully curated places. My relationship with wine began in a very real, very Napa way: during college, my softball teammates and I realized we were only about 45 minutes from Napa Valley. So we did what felt obvious at the time — piled into a car and went wine tasting for the day. That first experience sparked something that stuck.
After college, that interest continued to grow. While studying abroad in Barcelona, I spent weekends wine tasting cava, learning how wine is woven into everyday life and shared experiences. When I returned home, Napa became the place where those early memories, curiosity, and appreciation for wine truly deepened.
Since 2017, I’ve been exploring Napa Valley regularly, visiting about five to six times a year. Over the years, wine tasting has become my go-to way of celebrating with friends and family — birthdays, bachelorettes, holiday weekends, or simply an excuse to gather and slow down together. Through all of those trips, I naturally became the person people turn to when planning their first visit — or their fifth — asking where to go, what to skip, and how to make the experience feel special without feeling rushed.
My husband and I have been members at Frog’s Leap Winery for over five years, and we’ve tasted across countless wineries throughout the valley. That consistency and real-life experience shape how I approach Napa planning: thoughtful, wine-forward, and grounded in quality.
My Napa Style
I approach Napa with intention. I care about learning the story behind the wine — especially bold reds — while still enjoying the fun and beauty of the experience. Napa is unique in that it allows for both relaxed hospitality and elevated surroundings, and I think the best itineraries balance those two things well.
I prioritize boutique tastings, smart pacing, and excellent food. I’m not interested in cramming in wineries just to check boxes. Instead, I focus on fewer, better experiences, with enough breathing room to actually enjoy where you are.
Who I Love Planning For
I most enjoy building itineraries for:
First-time Napa visitors who want a thoughtful introduction to the region
Couples weekends, whether romantic or simply restorative
Girls trips and celebrations, like birthdays or bachelorettes
Each trip is customized around the group’s wine preferences, energy level, and overall vibe — whether that’s relaxed and low-key or celebratory and social.
Itinerary Approach & Trip Ideas
I help with the full planning process, including winery and restaurant reservations, timing, and transportation strategy. Popular trip formats include:
2-Day Napa Escape (Friday–Sunday)
A perfect option for a quick reset, with an afternoon tasting on arrival day, a full tasting-and-dining day on Saturday, and a relaxed close on Sunday.
3-Day Classic Napa
A slower-paced itinerary with one to two tastings per day, longer lunches, and time built in for shopping, scenery, or spa time.
Each day is structured but flexible — Napa is best enjoyed when it doesn’t feel over-scheduled.
Wineries I Consistently Recommend
A few places I truly love and return to:
Frog’s Leap Winery – Organic farming, approachable hospitality, and consistently excellent wines
Mumm Napa – A classic stop for sparkling wine lovers
Sequoia Grove Winery – Known for bold reds and a warm, welcoming tasting experience
Ashes & Diamonds Winery – A modern, design-forward tasting experience with expressive, food-friendly wines
Where I Always Eat
Food is a major part of how I experience Napa, and these are places I genuinely return to again and again:
Bistro Jeanty – My #1 favorite restaurant in all Napa. Cozy, classic French that always delivers
Gott’s Roadside – The ideal casual lunch between tastings
Brasswood Bar + Kitchen – A polished but relaxed dinner option
Brix Restaurant & Gardens – Beautiful setting and consistently great food
Mustards Grill – A Napa staple that never disappoints
Cole’s Chop House – Steakhouse
Don Giovanni - Italian Restaurant
Experiences Beyond Wine
I love incorporating spa time into a Napa or Sonoma itinerary. One of my favorites is the spa at The Lodge at Sonoma Resort, which is perfect for unwinding between tasting days.
Logistics & Planning Philosophy
Transportation in Napa matters. Wineries are spread out, ride-share availability can be limited, and walking between stops isn’t realistic. Depending on the length of the trip and group vibe, I typically recommend renting a car, with private car services as a great option for special occasions or more relaxed days.
Ideally, Napa trips should be planned two to three months in advance, especially during peak season. Last-minute trips are possible, but reservations at popular wineries and restaurants may be limited. My favorite months to visit are August and September, when the valley is buzzing with harvest energy.
When staying overnight in Napa, Yountville is my preferred home base. It’s charming, walkable, and surrounded by incredible food and wineries, which makes the entire trip feel seamless.
A Personal Touch
I often bring my dog along for wine tasting, so I’m always mindful of dog-friendly wineries — and Napa has many great options. Small details like that can make a trip feel more personal and memorable.
